FEFANA welcomes the European Commission’s EU Strategy on Livestock and the EU Protein Action Plan as forming the basis for concrete policy measures to improve the competitiveness and resilience of the EU’s specialty feed ingredients sector.
Whilst the respective initiatives are separate, they have been published simultaneously, and both recognise Europe’s dependence on external suppliers for some critical agricultural inputs and the vulnerabilities this creates for food security, competitiveness and resilience.
Joerg Seifert, FEFANA’s Secretary General, stated “The latest European Commission strategy documents highlight the need to strengthen strategic autonomy, enhance the resilience and preparedness of protein value chains, advance research and innovation, and scale up investments across the agri-food sector.
“Feed additives are well placed to help livestock farmers meet the nutritional, health and welfare needs of animals as well as address sustainability issues including enhanced feed efficiency and decreased emissions.
“As the EU advances its agenda of regulatory simplification and enhancement, FEFANA stands ready to work with policymakers in supporting the proposed goals and actions of both the Livestock Strategy and Protein Plan.
“We look forward to making an active contribution to the upcoming European Commission planned dialogue on the implementation of EU feed legislation in November 2026.”
